Summer 2010 updateWe just wrapped up early summer with a little tree repotting still some more to do. We are presently shuffling the trees around the nursery as well trying to get every tree in its own group opposed to the very avant-garde organizational methods we have used in the past where trees are put next to whatever they look good with. This was great for years! However we need a new look and this seems to be a refreshing new look for Bob, John and I. Not to mention things are much easier to find this way!We started working on a new pot in pot area where we start growing shrubs and other 3 gallon nursery stock in. For those who do not know what pot in pot is. It is a system where a plant is grown in a pot and that pot is put inside another pot that is permanently buried in the ground. This is a great system because it gives you the benefits of field growing yet you can harvest a plant for sale at any time of the year. As a result of this we look like we are in project mode again in various parts of the nursery. I swore after the last two green houses and the pot in pot for trees we would not do this again! Ugh, We are always trying to grow a better plant and this is how we think we can do it so here goes!!!After many years of growing perennials only we ventured into annuals a bit. Some of our plantings in the gardens are good some not so good. White impatiens in black pots were and are awesome. Petunias in the garden are disappointingly weak. There are also some red and orange impatiens in the gardens that are looking good. Salvia ‘Black and Blue is a winner in the gardens!! The annual snapdragons we have planted are beautiful as well. Lantana is weak and pathetic. Oh well. It’s a journey and those Snapdragons and Salvia are working for me.We started carrying some ceramic pottery this year. Not just to carry it but I really believe the shapes and colors are a vital component to the garden. There is still plenty to choose from so come to the nursery and check the pottery out. Its all high quality, thick ceramic walled pottery with beautiful colorful glazes. There are some outstanding natural finish pots without glaze that look like they were carried out of King Tut’s tomb, very cool! This concludes the news. Its not everything just a concise version of what has been going on here at the nursery to bring everyone up to date. We journey on…
We couldn't be happier with the landscaping they designed and installed!
