It’s that time of the year where there are lots of things blooming, leaving the garden far from colorless. One notable perennial that is blooming right now is the Coneflower (Echinacea). One that I am particularly pleased with from last year is Tiki Torch Coneflower. This plant has done impressively well in the trial gardens at the nursery, proving to bloom this year with just as vivid orange blooms as it did last year. This variety is definitely a variety worth having.
Along with Tiki Torch, there are many other varieties of Coneflowers blooming as well. Mac ‘N Cheese and Hot Lava are just two other varieties that are yellow and red. Sometimes warm colors can be hard to come by in the garden, this year though, these coneflowers cover that spectrum of the color wheel very well. Coneflowers are a great choice to be planted in groupings or the backdrop of your perennial garden, as they come in a variety of heights, adding the perfect amount of color during these hot summer months.
Coneflowers aren’t the only thing blooming right now. Crème Brulee Coreopsis, Red Dragon Geum, Max Frei Geranium, and Blue Plumbago are just a few other perennials that are blooming rather abundantly right now. Max Frei is proving to be a very reliable bloomer, as well as a nice and compact geranium that forms a nice mound in the garden. Crème Brulee has intense yellow flowers that come from foliage that appears a bit lacy, adding another attribute to the garden with this textured look. Blue Plumbago has been one of my favorites for years now with its eye-catching blue flowers that can also thrive planted in some shade as well as the sun. Red Dragon Geum is a new variety that is blooming with vivid red flowers.
Stick around though, just because there are a lot of perennials blooming right now, there are still more to come. Stoke Asters, Coreopsis, and Anemones are among others that are still yet to bloom. Keep your garden colorful all summer long, by planting some of these perennials that have alternating bloom times.
Enjoy these hot summer days and don’t forget your plants get thirsty too 🙂
We couldn't be happier with the landscaping they designed and installed!
