As I said before Fall is one of my two favorite times of year. We are finally here. The temps have dropped and the leaves are beginning to change beautiful shades of reds, yellows, and oranges. This is all great. There is more to it than just this. There is also the interplay between the deciduous trees and the dark greens and blues that the coniferous plants exhibit. During fall when you get the rain sometimes the evergreens look so vibrant it is unreal. This all makes for great photography. We have some white barked European Birch out in the front of the nursery that look great with their yellow leaves hovering above the Blue Spruce ‘Mackiness Short Needle.’
We have been adding to our gardens the past month or two. It has been fun adding large amounts of indigenous boulders to our landscape. We may have gotten a bit carried away with it but rocks can always be moved. It was kind of funny finding out the guy down the road cleared our property of all these rocks fifty years ago. He threw them down a hill. It was great fun for Bob, John and I to drag them back up that hill and strategically spread them around the property again. What an interesting life those rocks lead. 150 years ago they were hanging out with the Miami Indians that had one of their main villages nearby. 10,000 years ago Mammoths were probably drinking water from the low area we pulled them out of.
Many people think when its raining it’s a bit chilly. This is nothing compared to what it’s going to be like in 2 months. You will be wishing you could plant a tree in the rain in 62 degree weather. This is great weather to plant in. It has been great all year for that matter. You just never know when you are going to get it. Sometimes I take walks in the Fall rains intentionally just because I know I will wish I had when Winter sets in. When you have a nice Fall day here you just can not beat it, the combination of color, fresh air, and whatever else you throw in the mix. Enjoy it while you can.
We couldn't be happier with the landscaping they designed and installed!
